ENSEC and University of Zagreb, Faculty of Teacher Education, are proud to host the 4th ENSEC Conference in 2013.
ENSEC is a collaborative network for European researchers and practitioners working in the area of social and emotional competence in children and young people. The network has been in existence now for five years and has a growing and thriving membership right across the world.
We would be delighted to welcome you to participate in the Fourth European Network for Social and Emotional Competence (ENSEC) Conference on 3-7 July 2013, in Zagreb, Croatia. The conference builds on three previous successful and vibrant ENSEC Conferences in Malta, Turkey and The United Kingdom.
Our joint enterprise is one which is essentially concerned with helping children and young people to work out who they are and to find their place in the world. This is a timeless concern, but one to which the modern world is adding ever more complex challenges and opportunities. Issues such as war and conflict, racism and intolerance, poverty and inequality, family breakdown, migration, the position of women and girls, the consequences of unfettered corporate capitalism, the impact of a global recession, and the failure of the world’s leaders to address environmental issues and environmental degradation are impacting on our young as never before, and are daily concerns and anxieties for many of our youth across the world. New technologies and social media are both an opportunity and a challenge - providing new ways to bring people together for networking and grassroots social change, but also acting as a source of threat, distress and distraction to many. New initiatives, policies, programmes, projects and therapies are constantly being put forward which claim to help us to address some of these issues and their consequences for wellbeing and mental health. The best of them need disseminating, but they all demand critical scrutiny to examine their ethical and theoretical base and the quality of the evidence behind them.
In this rich but sometimes confusing landscape, the theme of the 2013 conference is SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL COMPETENCE IN A CHANGING WORLD. The conference will address many of the major issues that face us currently, locate - and contextualise theory and practice and provide an opportunity for theoretical discussion and dissemination of research in this field.
Delegates will find old friends here, make new friends, find out something new and have fun in Zagreb. Zagreb is a safe town where you will find good vibes, a cheerful atmosphere and a relaxed ambience.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the Conference in Zagreb!
